Web Hosting & Domain Management
Website hosting is an integral part of our website design and extranet business. The processes and features that support our web-based systems require a robust SQL data platform and a level of system control that we can only enjoy by operating and controlling our own server cluster.
These servers are co-located in Manchester's Telecity data centre (click for details), which provides secure, scalable server facilities and the required connectivity. We also operate a cluster of development servers located in our Bramhall offices.
We don't offer independent web hosting contracts - our servers are reserved for our own website design and extranet clients. The number of sites hosted on each server is monitored (along with bandwidth usage and processor demand) to ensure a professional level of service for all clients at all times. We maintain our servers to support our development activity, not as a profit generator.
Each site that we host is allocated a notional (GByte) space allocation, however it is rare that a site comes close to fully utilising this allocation. There are exceptions (i.e. clients that are hosting libraries of large video or audio files), where we will upscale charges according to requirements.
As part of the hosting agreement, clients benefit from LiveSTATS log analysis software (click for details) that provides real-time and historic statistics for visitor data, page impressions etc. FTP facilities are also available.
We take data security very seriously. All servers are firewall protected and any relevent security patches are applied within seven days of release from Microsoft. Our SQL database servers include additional internal security measures.
As part of our web support services, we are also happy to take care of domain registration and management for clients - we currently administrate over 200 domains. We are also able to establish mail accounts, manage mail forwarding and address any DNS/MX issues that arise. For our clients, this means one number to call to discuss any site content, hosting or URL requirements.
